This summer (2023), I took a suicide prevention course through Youth Save which is a collaboration between the Oregon Health Authority, the Oregon Pediatric Society, and the Society of Mental Health. I want to share the many resources that are available to families if your child is struggling with depression, anxiety and/or thoughts of suicide. Nationally, between 2016 – 2020, there was a 26% increase in children ages 3-17 experiencing anxiety and depression. In Oregon that increase was almost double the national average. From 2016-2020 there was a 40% increase in the number of children and youth experiencing anxiety and depression. And then the Coronavirus hit our community…
The resources provided here come directly from the Youth Save training. If you work with youth and families, I highly recommend attending the training yourself. You can access it by signing up through the Youth Save website: https://oregonpediatricsociety.org/youth-save/
For all parents, I hope you will find these resources helpful. Please reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns. I am here to listen, support, help, and connect you with resources.
In solidarity and with love,
Julia
