A note from Julia:
In June, 2026, I was interviewed by The Willamette Week for their article on Gentle Parenting. While I value the focus on the struggle parents are experiencing in finding a parenting style that is right for them, I was disappointed that the article did not give any support or resources for struggling parents. I wrote this response with my friend and colleague, Megan Barella, who was also interviewed for the article. She has published it as a blog post on her website. There is a link to the original WW article in the post as well. https://meganbarella.com/parenting-for-human-rights/
Three Options for 2026-2027 Parenting Support:
1. Alumni Parenting Class: Begins April 16th, 2026
Alumni Parenting Class: Begins Week of October 12th, 2026 at The Portland Montessori School. Dates and time to be posted shortly. See the previous course description here.
2. Host a Parenting Workshop/Class
Please reach out to me if you are interested in hosting a parenting class or workshop either at your school or for a group of parents. PTAs and Community Engagement Committees have found having a parenting workshop at the school brings important discussions and support for parents and is a worthwhile educational evening for all. Following up with a parenting class series can have even more impact for the whole school or parenting community.
3. Individual Parenting Support
As always, I am available for one-on-one parent coaching. Please click on the contact section of the website to reach out for individual parent coaching. I’m here to help and support you.
Options for 2026-2027 Supports for Teachers and Schools:
Positive Discipline in the Classroom
As a former Montessori and Public School Teacher, I am passionate about sharing Positive Discipline with teachers and whole schools. I am certified to help schools implement both Positive Discipline in the Classroom and Positive Discipline for Early Childhood Educators. I am available to facilitate professional development for school staff and administration. My services range from introductory workshops to helping schools implement this trauma informed, restorative social emotional learning curriculum at the whole school level. Please contact me to discuss what this might look like at your school. To learn more about Positive Discipline in the Classroom please visit: https://positivediscipline.org/
The Happenings Mat
I am trained in facilitating ‘The Happenings Mat’ workshops, which is a marvelous tool to support preschoolers, teachers, and families with communication, self-regulation, and problem solving. Heather Kindem, of Tacoma, WA, has created a mat that helps our youngest students use Nonviolent/Compassionate Communication with themselves and others. I am available to bring this 2.5 hour training to preschools and groups of families to share this wonderful resource. Please contact me to set up a workshop.
